NEIGHBORS - Untold Voices of Islam
This project was made possible by the Davis Projects for Peace, a grant to follow through on a project that promotes Global Peace. Director Pavel Shmelov traveled with Producer Rostam Assadi across the East Coast of the United States and sat down with many Muslim community leaders to allow a variety of voices to share their experience being Muslim in today's America. From Imam's to Community Activists, and Hip-Hop artists, Islam is practiced in many different ways but united under the same tolerant message. These are our neighbors, and their voices have previously been untold.
Today, more than ever, our mental health is not as prioritized as it should be. Director Pavel Shmelov had a chance to travel across Thailand and sit down with a Buddhist Master Monk. After all, if exploring happiness was the goal, then Thailand, renowned as having some of the friendliest and happiest people in the world, should be a good place to start. This visual short film showcases the rush of the city and the feelings we sometimes have on a daily basis, then transcends into a mental awakening and blossoming of one's happiness.
